CALLING ALL ALUMNI OF MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY!

ARE YOU A GRADUATE OF MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND WHO IS:

Concerned about the future of Newfoundland and Labrador’s ONLY university?

Committed to preserving the university’s commitment to “freedom of learning”?

Keen to participate directly in university governance?

If so, consider standing for election to the Memorial University Board of Regents, the university’s highest governing body! Nominations open March 18, 2026, for the election of SIX alumni members of the Board, for 3-year terms starting in September.

What does the Board of Regents do?

The Board oversees the “management, administration and control of the property, revenue, business, and affairs of the University.” This includes oversight of senior management, the university budget, strategic plans, and university policies. It does not have direct responsibility for academic (research and teaching) matters.

As six of the board’s 30 members, alumni are an important voice on matters critical to the university’s financial and operational future. Here are the requirements:

the Board meets 5 times per year, along with committee meetings

the Board welcomes (and needs!) people with diverse backgrounds, including legal, community, financial, non-profit, and technical knowledge and experience

alumni representatives MAY NOT be: current students; current employees of the university; university retirees; and those with financial conflicts of interest with Memorial

I’m in! What do I need to know and do?

You need three letters of reference from fellow alumni, along with your own 250-word bio and campaign statement. Nominations close April 14

You DO NOT need to live in St. John’s, or even in the province to be eligible!

Candidates may campaign online and through posting at the university

Voting is online, via the Board website
