Newfoundland and Labrador's next general election has yet to be called, but the Canadian Federation of Students is calling on candidates to commit to making post-secondary education affordable.

On Tuesday, chairperson [Nicolas] Keough began the Bring Back the Freeze campaign to generate support for reinstating a cap on tuition fees at Memorial University, which ended in 2022.

"Our message is simple, if you care about the future of this province, don't vote for candidates who refuse to stand up for students," Keough told reporters.

CFS has six demands for candidates running in the provincial election, which includes rolling back tuition rates to pre-2022 levels and freezing the fees from further increases.

The organization also wants the province to end differential fees for international students attending MUN and College of the North Atlantic, increase core operating funding at both institutions, a guarantee of paid work placements for students and student aid eligibility expanded to include international students.
